Friday Favorites One-Day Camps (ages 7-11)
Fridays 9 a.m. - noon.

Fridays are fun days at the Arb! This series of one-day mini-camps brings together some of summer's most popular activities and outdoor games, along with opportunities to dig a little deeper into the fascinating world of pollinators. Combine these fun-packed morning sessions with weekday camps to make a 5-day session, or just come for the day!
Each session: Limit 16

STEM Studio Day Camp
Monday - Thursday, August 6 - 9, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Investigations and innovations abound as the dynamic subjects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) are used to inspire curiosity and new discoveries in the natural world. Develop problem-solving skills using LEGO™ bricks, microscopes and a wide variety of other materials to conduct imaginative experiments. Team up to design, create, test, and refine solutions to engineering challenges like "the Animal Shelter," "the Balance" and "the Mystery Box." Explore the summer exhibit's life-sized origami sculptures throughout the Arboretum gardens and create your own origami art to uncover mathematical connections and real-world applications.

Get away from the screen and into the wild, learning about nature through a real outdoor MinecraftTM-themed adventure! Survive in an unfamiliar environment, build an epic house, forage for food, mine for materials and fend off wandering monsters through a series of challenges. Develop survival skills through fire-making, mapping, and plant identification. "Creative mode" also allows time for creating potions, planting take-home projects and imaginative nature exploration. NOTE: Not an official MinecraftTM product. Not approved by or associated with Mojang.

Get up close and personal with the miraculous world of bugs! Search the Arboretum for a myriad of creepy-crawlies that live in the water, fly in the air, and hide on the ground. Investigate insects' unique adaptations, fascinating life-cycle transformations, and the wildly different ways they have to see, smell, hear, and communicate. Become a bug detective with exotic, live specimens from Como Zoo. Suit up like a beekeeper to look inside a honey bee hive and create new buggy encounters by building bug-friendly habitats to attract and house insect visitors. Experiments, games, and even a bug-tasting(!) will round out this week of bug-tastic fun.

Wild About Animals Day Camp (ages 7-11)

Special Guest: Live birds from University of Minnesota Raptor Center

Become a wildlife biologist searching for signs of animal life using nets, magnifying glasses, binoculars, and field guides to learn which creatures call the Arboretum home! Study animal and insect masters of camouflage to learn about the adaptations that enable them to hide in plain sight, and discover how these changes in structure, function, and behavior help them survive and thrive. Campers will hone scientific observation skills through group team-building games, participating in real citizen science research projects and getting an up-close look at live raptors and other surprise guests of the animal kingdom!

Mix creativity, a love of nature, and a little imagination this summer, using Earth's elements as inspiration for fabulous arts and crafts! Develop new skills and techniques in weaving, painting, and drawing focusing on a new elemental theme each day. Sculpt with mud, design a nature-inspired wind chime, play with watercolors and use sunlight in imaginative ways! Expand the possibilities of art-making through hikes and exploration of the Arboretum together with new friends while discovering ways to use found treasures in one-of-a-kind creations.

There is no obligation to register if a spot opens. If the waitlist shows enough demand, additional class sessions may be added.
