The Arboretum and The University of Minnesota Raptor Center are partnering again to present another unique camp experience! The sky's the limit when campers discover and investigate the amazing lives of the varied winged creatures soaring overhead, nesting in trees, and searching for worms in the dirt. 
  • Learn how birds fly, what they eat, how feathers work, and why there are so many different types of bills and feet
  • Get an exhilarating, up-close and personal look at a different live raptor each day! 
  • Learn about backyard birding by making bird feeders to take home and discovering who comes to dinner!

Arboretum Expedition for Adventure! Day Camp (ages 7-11)

An outdoor adventure awaits! Paddle, cycle, swim, or hike to a new destination each day within the Arboretum and beyond, while discovering scientific concepts and connections to the natural world.
  • Learn paddling basics by venturing to Lake Minnewashta Regional Park for canoeing and exploration of its many diverse ecosystems
  • Create solar ovens and learn survival skills with additional games and activities that encourage teamwork, safety, and a sense of accomplishment
  • Have a blast biking together to the life-guarded Lake Minnewashta Beach for swimming and a watershed study

Requirements for participation: All campers must be able to bike 6 miles on two wheels to be eligible, and must be able to swim. Campers will need to bring a properly functioning bike and helmet on one of the days (registrants will be contacted prior to camp with the date of "bring your bike and helmet" day)

Mud!

Campers will explore, play, jump and squish in mud, glorious mud! Create mud crafts, search for critters that live in the mud and eat a "dirt" cup snack. Campers should come ready for a muddy good time! Parents, don't worry! Kids are 100% washable, and will be sprinkler-washed before being returned to you. Bring a towel, dry change of clothes and a plastic bag to hold the wet ones.
