Join us on Arbor Day as we celebrate trees! Get outside to enjoy the Arboretum’s tree collections and celebrate the holiday that honors the planting, upkeep and preservation of trees. Complete a Tree Bingo card to get to know trees at the Arb; experience our tree-themed pop-up in the Great Hall with items from the rare book collection and meet the Minnesota Herb Society. Visitors can also listen to tree stories in the Andersen Horticultural Library, attend presentations throughout the Arboretum’s tree exhibits, and take home a free tree sapling to plant in the yard.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tree Mobs | Assorted Tree Collections
Learn about the Arboretum tree collections from our experts! Every presentation will last 15-20 minutes followed by a 10-15 minute Q&A.

- 12 p.m. - Apple Demonstration Plots at the Farm at the Arb

10 a.m.-2 p.m. Herb Society Meet & Greet | Great Hall
Meet supporters of the Arboretum in the Great Hall who volunteer their help to care for the Kitchen Herb Garden, Fragrant Herb Garden and Cloister Garden.
10:30 a.m. StoryTime | Andersen Horticultural Library
Enjoy a special tree-themed story time with your little ones at 10:30 a.m. in the Andersen Horticultural Library! StoryTime is recommended for ages 0-5, but all are welcome.
11 a.m.- 2 p.m. Andersen Horticultural Library Tree Pop-up | Oswald Visitor Center Balcony
The library staff will present items from their rare book collection for this tree-themed pop-up display. Stop by the library to continue learning!
11-11:30 a.m. Plant Walk | Meet on the Dahlberg Terrace
Free Plant Walks led by our experienced Education staff and volunteers take visitors on a journey through our main gardens, highlighting interesting plants along the way.
10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tree Giveaway | Dahlberg Welcoming Terrace (Weather Backup: Great Hall)
Continue the Arbor Day celebration at home by planting a tree donated by Cargill by Living Lands & Waters as part of their MillionTrees Project. Since 2007, more than 1.4 million trees have been planted/distributed for MillionTrees across the Midwest.
Free tree varieties available include:
- Bur Oak
- Red Oak
- Swamp White Oak
- Northern Pecan
